Veronica + Bill
How did you and Bill meet? We met at the popular college bar on a Thursday night at the University of Pittsburgh our senior year. That was possibly one of the few times I’ve seen Bill’s dance moves!
How did he propose? Bill is not a planner, and had the most detailed elaborate plan. When I retell the story, I sometimes still don’t believe it! We were on our annual Thanksgiving trip in the Florida Keys. A family friend was the captain of a gorgeous boat, that was the topic of conversation multiple times throughout the week. Bill’s sister asked if we wanted to go check it out with her on our last night in the Keys. A few of us met to see the boat before dinner and we went out onto the ocean. They turned the boat around so the sunset would be in the background. At that point everyone “saw dolphins”. Bill coaxed me out to the front of the boat, where he proposed! Turns out, they lied about dinner reservations so I’d be ready, they had a cooler on board with champagne, and everyone had cameras so we had gorgeous pictures from the proposal. They docked the boat at a local restaurant where family and friends were all there to celebrate. Bill later told me that he waited until the last night of our trip, so we’d be going back to Pittsburgh to celebrate with my family immediately after. It was truly perfect!
What inspired your vision for your wedding day? We knew we wanted our décor to be understated, romantic and elegant and the actual wedding experience to be convenient for our guests and a ton of fun. Deer Creek is a gorgeous venue as is, so we kept décor very minimal to let the venue do the talking! We planned for a heartfelt ceremony focused on us as a couple, then cruised right into a night of fun.
What advice would you give other brides planning their wedding? As every bride says, try to enjoy every moment! It is a stressful time, but when you feel overwhelmed with planning, remember that the wedding is simply the celebration. You are marrying the person you chose to spend your life with and THAT is what the wedding day is about. Your guests are the individuals who have a special meaning in your life and they will enjoy your wedding day no matter what happens. No use in stressing over every little detail. Figure out the big things and everything else will fall into place.
