Lynnette + Miheer | Wedding at Fountains Country Club

Lynnette + Miheer

How did you both meet? We met in August 2011 as first-year law students in “Legal Methods,” an introductory Columbia Law School class that all students take during orientation. Before the class began, we were required to select assigned seats. Miheer picked his seat, but continued to monitor the seats around him in the days leading up to the first class. When he realized that I was sitting one row in front of him, he actually switched his seat to be next to me (a fact I’ve always enjoyed!)

How did Miheer propose? Miheer proposed over Labor Day Weekend in 2015. Two of our good friends had gotten engaged a few months earlier, and Miheer asked them to send a Paperless Post inviting guests to an engagement party in their honor at the Boathouse restaurant in Central Park. (Little did I know, I was the only person who actually received the Paperless Post!) They asked me to arrive earlier so that the bridal party (I was a bridesmaid) could take photos at the Bethesda Fountain, one of the most iconic landmarks in the park. When Miheer and I arrived at the fountain, I was surprised that nobody else from the bridal party was there. Miheer turned to me, admitted that we weren’t exactly there for an engagement party, and proposed. I was so surprised and excited! Miheer had hired a photographer to capture the big moment, so afterwards we took a few photos at our favorite spots in Central Park. When we returned to our apartment, I was shocked to find both of our families there – especially my parents and brother, who had travelled all the way from Florida! The proposal was perfect and full of so many wonderful surprises that I’ll never forget!

What inspired your vision for your wedding day? We wanted the entire day, beginning with our wedding ceremony, to feel elegant and meaningful, yet fun and reflective of our personalities and the love that we have for each another. We spent a lot of time thinking about and creating our wedding ceremony because we wanted it to feel like “us.” One of our favorite aspects of the ceremony is that we delivered personalized vows in addition to the traditional vows. This special touch, along with many more, set the perfect tone for our reception and the awesome party that followed – the white dance floor and “hora loca” didn’t hurt either!

Tell us about your beautiful wedding gown! From the moment I got engaged, I knew that I wanted to find my wedding dress at Kleinfeld in New York. My mom and I have been fans of the show, Say Yes to the Dress, for years and love watching it together – she actually found her wedding dress at Kleinfeld, too! Prior to going to Kleinfeld, I visited a few boutiques in Florida and saw a Hayley Paige dress that I really liked. Right before my mom booked her flight to New York to go dress shopping, she realized that Hayley was having a trunk show at Kleinfeld the weekend after she had been planning to come. We quickly changed our plans and went the weekend of the trunk show instead. At the appointment, I got the chance to meet Hayley and get her advice on my dress and accessories – she is so sweet! I fell in love with the Londyn gown – the same dress I had tried on in Florida – and having Hayley there only made it more special. Hayley also stopped by one of my fittings to see how everything was going with the gown. I absolutely loved my wedding dress, especially the skirt with all of its layers, and had the best time twirling on the dance floor. I just wish I could wear it all the time!

What advice would you give our future bride? Enjoy your engagement and the planning process! It is such a special and memorable time in your life, and one that is worth savoring because it passes so quickly. After all, as I always reminded Miheer, it’s the only time you’ll ever have or be a fiancé! Take time to think through what means the most to you and your future husband and be confident in your choices. At times, wedding planning can be tough, but it’s also really fun, and the memories from your wedding day will last a lifetime!
