Tara + Gregory

How did you and Greg meet?

Gregory and I have known of each other for a long time being that we’re from a small city. However, the spark was ignited when we reconnected online while living in different cities.

Our birthdays are two days apart and I logged onto Facebook a couple days after my birthday to check messages from friends and family. I got a notification that it was Gregory’s birthday that day, so I sent him a happy birthday message.

The conversation flowed from there and we soon realized how much we had in common with life experiences, interests, values and perspectives on life. Gregory had a scheduled trip to the city where I was living soon after, so we met up for dinner. We were both taken aback by the immediate strong connection we felt.

It’s very cliché though very true – when you know, you just know! From that moment on, our path together was paved. I’ve since relocated back to our hometown and we’re thrilled to be starting our life together where we grew up. 🙂 🙂

How did he propose?

We often travel from Canada to visit West Palm Beach where Gregory’s parents spend the winters. This past summer, we took a two-week break there after a very busy work period for both of us and my move back to our hometown. When it was approaching the end of our trip, we made a schedule so we could squeeze in all the local treasures before we left.

We love Red Reef Park in Boca Raton so we went there for a beach day on July 12th, 2015. We had discussed getting married in Florida ocean-side July 12th, 2016 and thought this beach would be perfect with its shaded pavilion surrounded by green sea grape bushes and highlighted by the backdrop of white sand and turquoise ocean.

When we first arrived at the beach, there was a wedding happening at the pavilion. It was a delightful surprise! We checked it out from afar with big smiles seeing how it was set up and envisioning ourselves with our families in that very place.

After some relaxing time at the beach, we left and headed back to the vacated pavilion for a closer look. I was preoccupied with visions of our future wedding, snapping photos and checking all the details from the distance between pillars to electrical outlet locations (I’m known for being very thorough haha). I turned to Gregory and said: “How perfect is this place?!” He said to me with the engagement ring in-hand: “There’s only one last question to ask… Will you marry me?”

Of course, I said: “Yes! Absolutely.”

The engagement ring itself had a noteworthy journey to arrive on my finger. Not only did I unknowingly carry the ring in my purse through US customs at the airport, but Gregory almost took it for a dip in the ocean in his swim trunks, then it sat in his sunglasses case awaiting a distracted moment when he could retrieve it secretly for his beautifully-timed proposal. Sweet, meaningful, crafty, well-executed – all the elements of a memorable proposal!

What do you envision for your wedding day? We talked a lot about what’s most important to us and that’s definitely our families. We decided to create an intimate family-focused wedding day with all things Florida – tropical flowers, sun, sand, ocean and fine foods. We have a short guest list: our parents, our siblings, our nieces as flower girls, a best man and maid of honour. That’s it! Simple, reflective of us, meaningful – a celebration of our love and our families uniting.
