Raquel + Andrew’s Crandon Park Key Biscayne Wedding

Raquel + Andrew

What was the one moment on your wedding day that is most memorable?

There were so many memorable moments! We both agree that our ketubah signing and first look were both incredibly special. For our ketubah signing, we had found a non-traditional English passage that really reflects our relationship and sharing that aloud with each other and our close family and friends was very emotional. While we went back and forth on doing a first look – we both are glad we did it. Seeing each other without the pressure of our 160 guests made it more intimate.

Did you have something borrowed, something blue, and something new?

Something blue were rhinestones that spelled out “bride” on my undergarments. Something new were my shoes, which I have re-worn already! Something old and borrowed were pieces of lace from my mom’s wedding dress that we used to wrap around all the bouquets.

What details or traditions did you include on your wedding day?

One of the things we both knew we wanted in a wedding was one that was extremely personal and detail-oriented. We wanted our friends and families to get a sense of who we are throughout the entire day and think to themselves “that is so Raquel & Andy!” One of the most meaningful details were the tallits that we used as the top of the chuppah – one was my dad’s and the other was Andy’s great-grandfather’s. Another highly-anticipated detail was the song that I walked down the aisle to – “MMMBop” by Hanson. I had the quartet begin with the traditional bridal march and then segway into a song that is reflective of many fond childhood memories. A side note on that is that the first time Andy agreed to come to a Hanson concert with me, I knew it was true love. J We included two of our favorite cocktails as our signature drinks for the cocktail hour – Andy’s is a dark & stormy and mine was a cocktail from a bar in D.C. With the help of many friends and family members we were able to really personalize our table numbers and escort cards. Memorable years and ages in our lives accompanied pictures of the two of us at the tables around the room. Lastly, as dessert lovers we knew we wanted that to be perfect as well. We worked with our amazing pastry chef to come up with some miniature versions of our favorite desserts. But, by far, her take on Andy’s favorite, Funfetti cake, for the top tier of our wedding cake was amazing!

What advice do you have for couples currently planning a wedding?

If you are planning your wedding from afar, make sure you have generous, patient, crafty and amazing family members and friends that live in your wedding city! Focus on incorporating all the things that you and your significant other want to see, feel and do at the wedding. Your guests will love it more when you are enjoying yourself! If you are crafting – don’t procrastinate…we may have had a Gorilla Glue incident two nights before the wedding that could have been avoided. J Etsy and online shopping for decorations and personal touches is great but make sure you keep your eyes out for shipping deadlines!

What was your inspiration for your wedding day?

Pinterest (who doesn’t use it as an inspiration these days), rustic and almost country-chic. As soon as we started planning our wedding in Miami I found it extremely difficult to try to bring these elements to the city! We wanted outdoors and scenic (Andy is an avid golfer, so golf courses were a priority) and nothing stuffy or traditional. I wanted a room that felt warm and I had to have bistro lighting somewhere! I also frequently searched for “birch wedding items” on Etsy..and subsequently purchased most of our decorations there.
