What was the one moment on your wedding day that is most memorable? The most memorable moment was when I walked down the aisle towards Austin with my Dad. I was very nervous but more excited to become his wife! Walking down the aisle with my Dad in the church I grew up in meant a great deal to my family and I. Ever since I was a little girl, I always knew I’d get married at St. Elizabeth’s Ann Seton which was even more beautiful on our wedding day!
Did you have something borrowed, something blue, and something new? Yes, I had something borrowed which was a vintage lace handkerchief from my grandmother who could not attend my wedding. My something blue was in honor of Austin’s favorite college football team the University of Michigan and my toenails were baby blue. My something new was my wedding dress, jewelry, veil and shoes. My mom surprised me with something old by giving me her cameo broach she wore on her wedding day which I pinned on my bouquet.
What details or traditions did you include on your wedding day? There were so many special details that we included in our wedding day. One detail in particular that stood out the most, was our wooden tree guest book designed and created by my Dad. Each guest signed their names on a leaf that was attached after the wedding. It now hangs on our home and reminds us of our beautiful wedding day! A tradition the Kager family has is to pray before every meal. My Dad lead our family and friends in a Catholic prayer before we ate dinner at the reception.
What advice do you have for couples currently planning a wedding? Our advice is not to sweat the small stuff. If something or someone doesn’t workout while you are planning your wedding, brush it off as best you can and move forward! No one will ever know that your flowers were the wrong shade of orange and honestly they will look beautiful regardless. Remember to have fun, be kind to each other and thank everyone who helped you along the way!
