Andrea + James’s | Delray Beach Marriott Wedding

Andrea + James

How did you and James meet? Jimmy and I met in the summer of 2010 at AMF Casselberry Lanes where I was working at the time as a manager, and Jimmy was bowling in a summer league. We began hanging out more when we participated in the same league during the fall and would frequently see each other at mutual friends’ houses for weekly poker games. In the fall of 2011, Jimmy asked me to bowl on his team with him, despite my terrible scores, and our friendship began to grow stronger. We started dating in November of 2011 and have had so much fun together since!

How did James propose? It was New Years Eve and we had plans to go downtown with friends for a block party that night. Jimmy told me that one of his friends, who lived in a high rise complex downtown, was having people over and asked if we could stop by for a bit before meeting up with our friends downtown. I casually agreed, not suspecting a thing. When we got to his friends place, Jimmy and I stepped into the elevator, but we got off on a different floor. I was confused, but went along with it. The floor we got off at was the recreational floor, overlooking beautiful downtown Orlando. Jimmy walked me to a table he had set up in the corner, which had rose petals and my favorite bottle of wine. We sat down, he poured us a glass of wine, and we started talking, just like normal. I still had no idea what was going on; I thought he was just being romantic. A few minutes later, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! We spent the rest of the night in the company of our friends, celebrating the New Year and our engagement. It was perfect.

What inspired your vision for your wedding day? I think my vision kind of fell into place after I picked out my wedding dress. My wedding dress was lace with subtle sequins throughout, and had a sweetheart cut. The dress to me was a romantic kind of dress with a hint of vintage to it, and from there I knew I wanted something classic and timeless. We picked navy and gray as our colors with blush pink as our accent. The rest of the details all came together very easily.

What was your most memorable moment? My most memorable moment was my dad’s impromptu speech he gave after our father/daughter dance. My dad is not a man of many words, but he nailed it with his speech. His speech made me both laugh and cry. The best part of it was when he acknowledged that my mother was my best friend and has molded me into the woman I am today. Him saying that meant the world to me and my mom and quite frankly, it blew us both away. A close second ‘most memorable moment’ would be Jimmy’s cameo as a Billy Idol rockstar. He has this thing of singing “White Wedding” at weddings, but this was the best performance I’ve ever seen him give. His groomsmen stood in the background with sunglasses on and blow up guitars while acting as his bandmates. It was hilarious and our guests really enjoyed it.

What advice would you give other couples planning their wedding? There are going to be several things you plan for your big day that will not happen. It could be the smallest detail or something a little more significant you really had hoped for. It’s important to say “oh well” and let it go instead of being upset about it. There will be so many other things that go right, and probably things you didn’t even plan on that will make up for it. In addition, the month before the wedding will be the fastest month of your life. You will have vendors calling you, guests sending in their RSVPs, people asking you all sorts of questions, etc. I know it’s easier said than done, but you will feel so much better if you have all your ducks in a row before that one month countdown starts.
